I cut as many sweet peas as I could this morning to keep the flowers coming and had enough for vases for home and work and friends. It’s wonderful, although it made me a bit late for work.
Some of the sweet peas were planted directly into the soil last Autumn, and some came up by themselves from the year before. Both are growing well in composted soil.
I still have these fabulous Anemones coming up in pots by the door, which are nice with the sweet peas, and I couldn’t resist the red and green buds of these dwarf gladioli.
Visit Rambling in the Garden to see other vases or to add your own.
Love the species sweet peas, two rich colours which you have caught beautifully in your picture.
Thanks Noelle! I have tried planting other types, but they haven’t survived for the last couple years. I love the mixed colours too.
Two beautiful vases Cath – those sweet peas are just gorgeous and make me long for summer!
Thanks! I love the scent of sweet peas.
Oh I love the sweet peas! I’ve grown Cupani a couple times and actually just came across a few pressed flowers in my diary yesterday!
Oh, interesting! Did the dried ones hold any scent?
No they didn’t. It would have been wonderful if they did, though!
Self-seeded sweet peas? They have certainly not self-seeeded here before, but I see no reason why they shouldn’t unless seedheads are cleared away before the seeds drop of course. Great to know you are taking some to work too they look wonderful ‘en masse’!
I have had them self seed before, only in really nice soil. I think the seedlings sometimes get eaten by snails in winter. This one also got surrounded by self seeded violas – such a pretty accidental mixture that I took a photo which I will find and post.
I always love Sweetpeas especially when filling a vase en masse like yours, you’ve chosen the perfect vase to display them.
I love them too, and this vase does seem just right for them.
Another delightful vase both in container and flowers….what a deep gorgeous purple sweet pea to keep me thinking warm spring days will be here before I know it!
They will! Time goes so quickly!
Ooh, I’m so envious of your fresh, richly colored blooms. That’s a unique specimen of gladiolus–pretty.
It is, especially in bud. I tried to look up a record of what it might be, but couldn’t find what it is. The full sized ones are falling all over the place this year – too much compost maybe.
I’m sure any tardiness was immediately excused once you walked in the door bearing sweet peas.
Possibly 🙂
I’m sure everyone would understand why your were late for work! The scent must be amazing. I have my Cupani seeds all ready but I won’t be sowing for about 2 months. The gladioli are amazing colours.
The scent is fantastic :). Something to look forward to sowing seeds for Spring.
A bunch of heaven! That is a beautiful variety!
They are beautiful and seem to be the toughest. I will try again to get a full colour mix next year as well.
Fantastic! Love all that colour! The Anemones are so pretty with both the sweet peas and the unusual coloured gladioli.
The anemones have been a great success this year, I think I will grow them instead of tulips next year.
Those sweetpeas have really cheered me up – lovely colours. I grow them every year – I’ve not had alot of success with anemones but I love them so I’m going to persevere. It’s been freezing here in Manchester but I’ve still managed to find some hardy fuchsias for my vase 🙂 love bec xx
