I have a quite a few dahlias now, I keep digging them up and spreading them around. These two are new though, and I thought they were particularly pretty and not quite so loud as many of the others. Dahlia ‘Profundo’ is the closer one, and ‘Dark Horse’ is in the background. They are paired up with Salvia leucantha and Indigo Spires.
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the GardenΒ for hosting IAVOM every week.
I can never find out where people hail from. This looks hot and humid enough not to be the uk π
Such summer flowers. And I liked your archive posts. And that mysterious greenhouse at the end of an inviting path.

Cath – I read your about, which made me smile. Anyways, your soil sounds fabulous and the critters must be ever so grateful
Thanks Joanna, you will know I am living in New Zealand then π I hope you are enjoying some Spring-like weather.
This makes such a good combination, the purple dahlia and the blue salvia – most fetching π Thanks for sharing
Thank you π The Salvia was a bit accidental – our lawnmower broke down and the one we borrowed was a little too wide for the path so some of the more exuberant salvias had an accidental trim.

So fresh and lovely. All the colors look great together.
Thank you π
Lovely colours of the Dahlias, they are such good plants aren’t they?
Yes, they are mostly so good and easy, bees love them, and the flowers are all beautiful. I have grown some from seed collected from the ones I have here so it will be exciting to see what the bees have made. π
Apparently you can eat the tubers and they taste like Jerusalem artichokes, which would be nice so long as they don’t have the same side effects. π
So beautiful.
Thank you π
Dahlias are the most perfectly formed flowers, don’t you think? Your arrangement is lovely, Cath!
Thank you Eliza, they really are, and there is such a variety. I have only grown them since I picked up a huge clump at the tip a few years ago. Prior to that I have only seen them in very tidy gardens, so I didn’t expect they would grow so well in my garden where it’s a case of survival of the fittest. π
Oh, I love Dahlias… only wish I had room for them. Love your IAVOM!
They do take space when they are growing, although mine are sort of forced to blend in with other plants- one is climbing through a tree. π
I saw a Tree dahlia last year. Fantastic – it blooms in fall. π
