The hot weather goes on and with it the dahlias. The bees are in the asters and the salvia, luckily there is a lot of it – this salvia leucantha grows willingly. I was going to say ‘like a weed’, but it doesn’t really, you have to plant it and then it grows where you put it.
The dahlias are Akita, Profundo, the white and lemon grown from seed, and another pink one ‘Dark Horse’, which I thought I had lost.
We are in the throes of harvesting, and have bottled another 19 pints of tomato puree tonight to add to the 3 or 4 dozen already put away, so it’s late and time to sleep. Congratulations to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for 6 years of blogging, and thank you for hosting IAVOM.
This is just stunning. I love everything about it. I would not have thought of putting cream with the jewel colours, but it looks incredible, along with the lovely blue-purple of the salvia. Your photography is breath-taking. And the lighting. So atmospheric.
Thank you ๐ You are so kind. The lighting was the last rays of the sun as the days are getting shorter here.
What beautiful dahlias, offset nicely by your spears of salvia.
Thank you โบ๏ธ the colours were so over the top I thought I might as well go further and add the fluffy salvia.
Quite lovely. Those zinnias are amazing.
Thank you ๐
Such wonderful rich colours in your Dahlias.
Thanks Christina ๐
What a wonderful combination of colours and such a great overall effect – and that’s a lot of tomato puree you have been storing up!
Thanks Cathy. We use a lot of tomato purรฉe – for pasta, enchiladas, ketchup, etc. and itโs hard to buy organic if we donโt make enough ๐
I make 12 jars of tomato chutney every year and skin and freeze several pounds of tomatoes too
I can only dream of dahlias like these….and I do hope mine do better this year….your vases are so rich with color they soothe my weary winter soul.
I have lost a few due to encroaching trees and other plants. Iโm glad they remind you of the coming summer.
Beautiful dahlias and zinnias too. Gorgeous
Thank you ๐
Keep those dahlias coming as long as they’re available!
Thanks for not being bored with them ๐ I do have other flowers but a lot of them are bee favourites (as is the Salvia but there is quite a lot of it)
Beautiful, just love the colors. I have just planted the same Salvia,we’ll see what happens here. Finally getting a Dahlia bud!
Oh, I hope your salvia goes well. It will be exciting to see the dahlia flowers.
While most are picking flowers through snow, such summery flowers are quite a surprise.
Your dahlias have been fantastic this summer Cath! The shimmering colours are lovely – beautiful photos. That is an awful lot of tomato sauce. ๐ Enjoy the end of your summer!
Such richness of colour and tone…helps to warm us norther hemisphere residents!! Thanks for sharing.
Glorious. And congrats.
